funny story behind this dress.

so, we had this project for fashion class at risd to make a dress out of paper.

i decided, after much deliberation, to make the dress out of paper towels and then dye them bright blue. we had two weeks to work on it.

so, i made the dress. it was a braided bodice with a full empire waist skirt. and, the saturday night before the monday it was due, i tried to dye it. and the whole thing fell apart.

yay!

so, surprisingly, i didn't freak out. i went to the CVS and bought seven boxes of microwave popcorn. and i made this on sunday.

yep.

during the fashion show, i had her walk out with a popcorn container (i got it from an old movie theater) full of the same crinkled paper as the back of the dress, and she threw pieces into the crowd.

it was a big success.

the dress is made from ACT II popcorn bags and white, cream, and gold coloured art paper. for structure and support i used brown package paper and newspaper. the string in the back is twine. the bow in her hair is one i took from a package i got in the mail.

the shoes are from Payless; they were $12. the night before the fashion show my friends and i ran two miles to the mall in the pouring rain to get them. at the end of the show, i had no use for them, and my model didn't want them, so i gave them to my TA.

i threw the dress out afterwards, and everyone got mad at me for it haha.




we had to come up with a name. mine was "pop-art"
